What’s Happening in Music Class!
September Letter to Parents-
In the month of September, we got a chance to learn lots about music, and play with all kinds of
instruments along the way! First, we got to learn the difference between beat and rhythm and
makeup rhythms of our own! The students were able to choose their own instruments and
perform their rhythms for the class. We then learned about musical dynamics, such as “piano”,
“forte”, and other terms like “crescendo” and “decrescendo.” We learned these terms by
playing a “Simon Says” type of game and moving around the classroom to the specific dynamic
played. Younger students were taught notes; quarter note, eighth note, double eighth note,
and quarter rests. Older kids were taught the notes I mentioned, and half notes, whole notes
and how to write these notes on a musical staff!
It has been so fun to see these students perform and get the chance to play some instruments
for the first time!
For the upcoming months leading to December, students will be learning singing techniques
and preparing for the very exciting Carols, Cookies, and Coco performance.
