Spring Break Ideas

Hello families...
I know many of us had plans for travel or staycations over this break. Since, we have to stay close to home, we thought we would put together a list of educational resources if you find yourself stuck inside. I added the first page from things that I knew, and then the rest are from a mass list of ideas that I have not personally checked out.

Spring Break Educational Ideas

Traditional fun: Board games, puzzles, art, write letters and mail them, put on a play, make a music video, karaoke to your favorite songs, do a dramatic reading of your favorite story, build a fort, play card games, run laps around the outside of your house (if it is safe to do so), make a workout routine and lead your family in it, organize your room, do some chores to help out, set the dinner table in a fancy way and act like it is a restaurant…..keep dreaming up the fun and get creative!

We have free access for our school through April 22nd. It is so awesome and covers every subject area, including art, health, engineering, and tech!
This login and password is good for the whole school!

Audible is currently free for kids while schools are closed! Listen to the newest books! https://stories.audible.com/discovery They have divided the books into categories by age level: “Littlest Listeners, Elementary, Tween” and so on. Sit back and enjoy!

Podcasts are so fun! Parents use your own judgement here, as we have not personally listened to all of these.
Here are some recommendations:

Cool Math Games is an amazing website! The kids love to hop on here when they finish assignments in class. They can play any of the games to keep up their skills and just have fun!!

Virtual field trips allow children to visit places around the world without ever leaving their homes. Through virtual field trips, they can visit other states, countries across the globe, and even other planets. https://freedomhomeschooling.com/virtual-field-trips/

Kids can find out about the world around them while learning about all areas of science on the National Geographic Kids website.
Take your kids on an exciting trip into the world of Seussville, where they can play games, watch videos and read books online

Do you have children who want to know all the details about how manufacturers make pencils or how a computer works? If so, try out the HowStuffWorks website.

PE Activities!

Here are some sample activities from Mrs. Coleman that you could do this next week. Make sure to track what you do in your activity log. Thanks!

Sample activities
Goal 60 Minutes Daily!

 There are a LOT of ways to get 60 minutes of
activity per day! Check out the list of possibilities.
 Jumping rope
 Riding a bike
 Skateboarding
 Playing basketball
 Dribbling
 Swimming
 Walking the dog
 Jumping on the trampoline
 Playing soccer
 Flying a kite
 Cleaning the room
 Play tag with the neighbors
 Make a fort and play in it
 Pull weeds
 Take your parents for a walk
 Chalk on the street
You don’t have to do just one activity for 60 minutes!
You can do many activities for shorter periods of time
and add them together. It all adds up! Try to get at
least 60 minutes of activity each day. It is so healthy!

Next Week...

Hello Families!

I hope you are all well. I know you have received the e-mail from Mrs. Imel that school will be dismissed next week. Thank you for your flexibility.  The 4th graders now all have access to Google Classroom. They are pretty excited about it because it is usually a  5th-grade and up thing.  I so appreciate their positivity. They can access our Google Classroom account from anywhere that has a computer.

Login: first and last name @tlcs.tlc.org

Example: monicapitts@tlcs.tlc.org

I taught them all how to click on the 9 dots and access their Documents and our Classroom page. I will upload our assignments there and they have to do "school" from home.
I will also be sending everything they need for next week at home with them today. If you can't pick it up today, I will leave it in the office for you. It would really help if you can swing by because I have copied everything and have it all ready to go.

All writing will be assigned through Mrs. Besk's Google Classroom just for our class!! It is all on the same page. You just click between the classrooms. Don't worry, I have shown all of the students how to navigate between the two!!

Work on notecards for Landmark Presentations

We are also sending home a card with all of your child's passwords on it for easy access!

We have two weeks until Spring Break! The quarter ends on Friday, March 20th. The AR goals need to be met before school on that day.

We have decided to extend the due date for the landmark project model. It will now be due on Wednesday, April 15th. Please do not bring it before this date. We will be presenting them on Friday, April 17th to the other 4th-grade class in the chapel room. The final drafts are being typed this week and next, and then we will use our last week before the break to start preparing our presentations.

Thank you so much for all of your flexibility with this process. Please stay healthy!!
